Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Visits Uganda to Expand Cooperation

.Senior Iranian economic delegation visits Uganda to expand cooperation

In line with strengthening and developing bilateral economic relations, Dr. Hamid Ghanbari, Deputy Minister for Economic Diplomacy at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran, arrived in Kampala, the capital of Uganda, on Monday, December 1, 2025, leading a high-ranking delegation of directors from the Ministry's political and economic sectors. The purpose of the trip was to visit Iranian economic projects in Uganda and follow up on bilateral economic issues, especially in areas of mutual priority.

The schedule of the delegation in Kampala signals the serious determination of both countries to expand trade and investment interactions. In this regard, important meetings were held with high-level Ugandan political and economic officials, including discussions with Sheikh Muhammad Ahmad Kisuule, Senior Presidential Advisor on Middle East Affairs; Ms. Olive Kigongo, President of the Uganda National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (UNCCI); and a meeting with Hon. Fred Bwino Kyakulaga, Minister of State for Agriculture. The main focus of these negotiations was on expanding economic cooperation, particularly in the agricultural sector, related industries, and the trade exchange of agricultural products.

While reviewing existing obstacles, both sides emphasized the necessity of facilitating private sector activities and creating appropriate financial mechanisms to increase the volume of trade. This visit promises a new chapter of close economic cooperation between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Republic of Uganda on the African continent.

Following a period of bilateral negotiations and field visits, the high-ranking delegation concluded its working visit to Uganda on Friday, December 5, 2025.
